1. Factual: In what ways can physical geography and climate affect a culture?
The culture varies according to the physical geography and the climate. Like for the Yupik, they live in the Arctic, where it is very cold. So their traditional clothing is made out of animals fur and keeps them warm, and they eat seals that they can find in the Arctic, whereas the Tuareg, they have to cover their skin to not get a sunburn in the hot desert they live in, and they eat grains and dairy they have from the goats and camels they have.
2. Can the geography and climate of a region significantly impact or change a society’s culture?
Yes. Because if the Tuareg is living in the desert, they won't wear thick fur coat because that's too hot for them. The whole culture they have is based on the location they are in and the climate. They make their houses with animal skin they can find easily, eat dairy and grains that they can find easily, too. Or else they won't survive in extreme environments like that.
3. Is it important to understand the climate and geographical region before you can truly understand its culture?
Yes. Because then you won't understand why they eat those food, or wear those clothes, or move around very often. For example, we know that the Yupik they live in the Arctic where it is very cold, so we will understand why they eat seals, instead of chips; why they make their clothes out of animal fur, instead of wear a t-shirt.
